This comforting Southern-inspired dish is hearty, budget friendly, and delicious served over rice or your favorite grain with vegetables on the side.

Ingredients

  • 20 oz. chicken gizzards
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 tbsp. everything bagel seasoning
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tsp. dried rosemary
  • 1½ tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp. minced onion
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch

Directions

  1. Clean and rinse the chicken gizzards. Place them in a small bowl with the juice of 2 lemons and everything bagel seasoning.
  2. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  3. Transfer the gizzards to the crockpot. Add thyme, rosemary, minced garlic, minced onion, and chicken broth.
  4. Cook on low for 8 hours.
  5. To make the gravy, mix 3 tablespoons cornstarch with ¼ cup water until smooth. Stir the mixture into the cooking liquid.
  6. Turn the crockpot to high and bring to a boil until the gravy thickens. If your crockpot doesn’t get hot enough, transfer the liquid to the stovetop and simmer until thickened.
  7. Serve over rice or your favorite grain with your choice of sides.
